Claire Little, originally from Troy, North Carolina, earned a B.S. in elementary education and an M.A. in reading education from Appalachian State University in 2016 and 2017 respectively. She currently serves as one of the Academy at Middle Fork’s third-grade teachers. Read on to learn more:
Why did you choose to work at the Academy at Middle Fork?
From the moment I stepped through the front doors, I could tell the Academy at Middle Fork was a home full of supportive people with the same mission: to help put students on a path to success.
What's your favorite part about working at the Academy at Middle Fork?
So far, my favorite part about working at the Academy at Middle Fork is seeing how excited the students are to be there. They are excited to come to school, to learn, to see friends and teachers, to be mini-Mountaineers. Most importantly, I love hearing how many students talk about their future plans at Appalachian State University.
How are you impacting education in your community?
I am impacting education in my community by encouraging students to set goals and make plans for the future.

“Learning together” is a core commitment of the Academy at Middle Fork. What does "learning together" mean to you?
Learning together means that everyone is supportive of one another throughout the learning process. Whether it's asking or answering questions and/or lending a helping hand, we are all part of the same community.
