I chose to work at the Academy because I believe in what the school stands for and is trying to achieve. I started out volunteering, then became a substitute teacher, and then a teacher assistant. I really enjoy working with the students and seeing them grow.
Jessica Hill, originally from Elmira, New York, earned a B.S. in elementary education with a minor in math from the State University of New York College at Cortland in 2000. Hill serves as one of the Academy’s teacher assistants. Why did you choose to work at the Academy?
I chose to work at the Academy because I believe in what the school stands for and is trying to achieve. I started out volunteering, then became a substitute teacher, and then a teacher assistant.
What's your favorite part about working at the Academy?
The sense of family that we have at the school. Also, working with the students and seeing them grow.
How are you impacting education in your community?
I feel that I am making an impact by being at the Academy. I strive every day to make a difference with the students.
What was your favorite subject when you were in elementary school?
Math

Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
“Learning together” is a core commitment of the Academy. What does "learning together" mean to you?
Learning together means both working as a team and continuing to learn new concepts or techniques. For example, when I took a CPR and First Aid Certification class with some of my colleagues, we helped each other to learn and master the material.
