Staff Spotlight: Sarah Macrow

I feel that it is up to all of us — whether you are a classroom teacher or not — to teach our youth because everything has a teaching moment! Being able to assist and nurture children is priceless.

Sarah Macrow, originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, earned a B.A. in psychology from the University of Tennessee in 2002 and an M.A. in elementary education from the University of Phoenix in 2017. Macrow serves as one of the Academy’s fourth-grade teachers.  Read on to learn more:

Why did you choose to work at the Academy?
I chose to work at the Academy because I love the "family atmosphere." I wanted to work in an environment that empowers students to always push for success while providing love and support during their journeys.  The Academy is that place. 

What's your favorite part about working at the Academy?
The collaboration! The Academy’s teaching staff works together no matter what grade level they are in. Everyone wants the students to be successful.

How are you impacting education in your community?

What was your favorite subject when you were in elementary school?
Social Studies and Writing

The Academy has a reading literacy focus. What is your favorite book?
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer and the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer

“Learning together” is a core commitment of the Academy. What does "learning together" mean to you? 
It means “we.” Nothing is individual at the Academy, instead, the focus is on the collective “we.” If one of us succeeds, we all do.
