Two from the Academy Participate in the Education Policy Fellowship Program

Two staff in the Appalachian State University Academy at Middle Fork will be participating in the Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP): Chantae Reynolds and Kori Trainor. The EPFP program, hosted by the Public School Forum, is designed to help participants learn more about education policy in North Carolina.

Chantae Reynolds is an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher at the Academy. She is also a student in App State’s doctoral program in educational leadership.

One of the core commitments of the Academy is “learning together”. For Reynolds, the EPFP “connects with this commitment.”

“This opportunity will allow me to have a comprehensive understanding of how education policy is developed, implemented, and evaluated at the state and national level and how it affects the ELL students that I work with.”

“EPFP will provide me with a chance to grow as an educational leader and give me tools to support the students and families at the Academy,” she added. “The knowledge gained as a fellow with EPFP will aid me in being an effective advocate with the Inclusive Excellence team. My doctoral research will focus on Latinx students and families and culturally responsive pedagogy.”

Reynolds completed her graduate certificate in reading education from App State in 2018, and joined the Academy teaching staff that same year.

“I feel very honored to receive this fellowship and am excited to learn more about leadership and applying it to my new role at the Academy,” said Trainor.

“I think this opportunity will help me develop stronger leadership skills to use each day with my different tasks that I am expected to complete.”
